Position Purpose
The CNC Mill Machinist I is responsible for machining parts utilizing milling equipment while relying on support from others in the machine shop department. Level I machinists will keep parts running and within specifications with consultation from others, such as higher-level machinists. They will be dependent upon others while performing duties including, machine tool setup, process prove out, first article inspection, and operation that are required until the job is complete. This position relies primarily on the experience and judgment of others to plan and accomplish their daily goals.  
Variety of Shifts Available
  • Standard hours for 1st shift: Monday- Thursday 5:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. 
  • Standard hours for 2nd shift: Monday- Thursday 3:30 p.m. - 2:00 a.m. *10% shift differential 
  • Standard hours for weekend shift: Friday- Sunday 5:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. *25% shift differential 
Responsibilities
  • Set up products on assigned milling machine tools while dependent on others in the department for support
  • Operate assigned milling machine tools within the department based upon predetermined input provided by CNC programmers and/or higher-level machinists
  • Read and interpret blueprints and diagrams, as well as job travelers for direction
  • Load and unload milling machine tools in a timely fashion
  • Allocate 80% or more hours to contracted jobs each shift
  • Identify, locate, and build all required tooling for production
  • Create and edit CNC offsets for both fixtures and tooling
  • Perform tool breakage detection, as well as recognize tool wear symptoms
  • Perform post processing during CNC cycle time
  • Deliver finished parts to designated areas
  • Complete assignments and production sequences based upon the CNC List(s) to meet production goals and schedules, as well as input from the machine shop management team
  • Conduct quality control by inspection of materials, products, and equipment to proactively detect defects or malfunctions
  • Follow basic machine tool maintenance practices
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as sanitation regulations
  • Manage priorities as they change throughout a shift
  • Accurately capture all labor hours and material in Epicor
  • Adhere to schedules, production goals, and budget
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including those outside department as necessary
Requirements: Education, Experience & Skills
  • High School Diploma, GED, or trade school graduate, or 1 to 3 years of practical milling experience
  • Experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) a plus
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility with work schedule, including some weekends, holidays, and different shifts as required; ability to work OT (more than 40 hours) in any given week as needed
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to walk, bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, and kneel each day. Specific requirements are:
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to lift or move 20-30 lbs.
  • Must be able to carry 20-30 lbs.
  • Must be able to pull or push 20-30 lbs.
Work conditions of the role are:
  • Work conditions may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and loud noises
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions
  • Must be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work within or visit areas where required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, reflective vest, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, and other PPE as required by the department
